PLAYFUL PLANET'S HISTORY
Just after the turn of this century, Karen and Bryan met, and soon realized, that in addition to sharing a passion for one another, they also shared a passion for using the power of media to bring knowledge and awareness to people’s lives. With Bryan’s 30 years of experience in both television and film, and Karen’s years of expertise in growing new businesses, they were a perfect match. The couple set out on a mission to create uplifting media that would both entertain and empower people.
Together they began developing ideas for programs, books, and films. But it was not until 2005 when a new inspiration, their daughter Lily, was born, that their focus sharpened into a single vision. Together, inspired by their desire for a better future for Lily, they made a commitment to help other families conquer the challenges of raising healthy children on a healthy planet.
The idea was planted in the summer of 2007 at a young girl’s birthday party where Karen met Ahmed Fahmy, a local kid's yoga instructor who incorporated storytelling into his classes. Other mom's at the party were intrigued, and asked if Ahmed gave classes outside the area. He did not, and it was in that moment that the Playful Planet concept was born. Bryan and Karen began developing a series of programs and activities for families to enjoy together, beginning with Storyland Yoga, featuring Ahmed. They resolved that each of the Playful Planet programs would be unique experiences that connect the health and well-being of children with the health and well-being of the planet.
As the vision grows, so does the realization that much of what Playful Planet does is philanthropic in nature. The topics are timely, necessary and are meaningful on a global level. Playful Planet welcomes all to join their Community with the belief that together we can create a brighter future for our children and the planet.

Below are a few of the causes we have selected that are impacting change for children, the environment, or the world community.
Kids vs. Global Warming
Alec Loorz has been winning awards and receiving press for years now. He is 15 years old and founded Kids vs Global Warming when he was 12 years old after watching Al Gore’s movie, “An Inconvenient Truth.” Feeling the weight of the global situation and a sense that he could make a difference, Alec felt compelled to tell other kids about the problems we are facing. His message is deeply rooted in hope, encouraging kids to speak up and let their voices be heard on this issue. Alec created a presentation made specifically for youth, full of videos, animation, easy-to-understand science, and compelling motivation for kids K-college ages. He gave over 30 global warming presentations before being invited by Al Gore to be formally trained with the Climate Project in October of 2008. He is now the youngest trained presenter with The Climate Project.
Save the Whales
"Save the Whales' purpose is to educate children and adults about marine mammals, their environment, and their preservation. Save the Whales was founded in 1977 when Maris Sidenstecker was 14 years old, and focuses on educating the public, especially children, about marine mammals and the fragile ocean environment. They believe children, the future of the planet, need to be empowered and know that their actions can promote change. Education is the key to saving whales, oceans, and ourselves."
Playing for Change
The Playing For Change Foundation (PFCF) is dedicated to connecting the world through music by providing resources (including, but not limited to: facilities, supplies, and educational programs) to children, musicians and their communities. The first music school, built in South Africa, provides a safe, creative outlet for the children while connecting them to other students around the world through music. It is the first school of its' kind in the area and will be a source of great pride and inspiration for years to come. With your help, PFCF is planning new music schools in the countries of Nepal, Mali, and Ghana, as well as developing programs at existing schools and communities in the United States.
My 7 year old daughter, Gracie, just couldn't wait to view this DVD! She was quite intriqued with the learning yoga aspect of this video! She enjoyed doing the animal poses yoga with the instructor, Ahmed Fahmy, and the kids in the DVD. Storyland Yoga by Playful Planet is certainly a unique idea, teaching children both yoga and the endangered species of the planet through storytelling!
I plan to use this wonderful DVD at Gracie's birthday party in April! What a great instrument for teaching! I urge all of you with children ages 3-8 to purchase this video! Even though it does target these ages, I really think that children younger AND older could benefit!
Disclosure: I received a DVD of Storyland Yoga in order to conduct an honest review. No monetary agreement was contracted. At no time did this company request a favorable review! If I say a product is good, then IT IS GOOD!
