Affordable Vacation Ideas
Toyota Sienna
In the distant past before Gracie was born, my idea of a vacation consisted of jetting to Maui, Hawaii, Vegas, Phoenix, New Orleans and staying at a top resort where chocolates on my pillows abounded! Now post-Gracie and the fact that I am on a limited income those trips are not possible at all! But the very definition of a vacation suggests rest, relaxation, and fun with those you love! Especially vacations including your child! So here, my friends are my Top 10 Creative AND Affordable Vacation Ideas!
1. Take the Train! Nothing is more enjoyable or exciting with a child, in my opinion. Gracie loved looking out the windows seeing the scenery rush by! she adored eating in the dining car though most of the time we ate the food we brought with us! (YES, YOU CAN DO THIS ON A TRAIN!) This is much more cost-effective than the sky-high rates in that dining car! But I had promised her. And if you decide to eat a meal there, choose breakfast! It's cheaper. Amtrak has many plans available!
2. Drive Your Car to a Day-Trip Destination! The possibilities here are endless! One day drive for 15 minutes! Another day, 20 minutes! Make it fun and interesting, taking everyone's hobbies into consideration!
3. Make sure you check online for specials! Here you will find many links and opportunities to enjoy your summer!
4. Let Your Kids Pick the Place! This can be a wonderful chance to let your kids learn something and they won't even know it! Older kids can plan the whole trip! Imagine what can be learned! Math, map skills, dealing with the businesses involved, etc, etc and ETC! Younger children can participate, too!
5. Create a Money Jar Now! You'd be surprised how that small change adds up! Put in the money you save on coupons, too!
6. Enter Sweepstakes! Someone has to win! Why not you? This is not the old days where every entry cost you a stamp! Now you are only limited by how much sleep you need!
7. Have a YARD Sale! Put your whole family to work. There's GOLD in your trash!
8. Swap Houses with a friend or relative! Yikes! Can you stand a CHEAP vacation across country where you can also cook your own food?
9. Day Camps! Many communities have day camps for families! Check out your local Community Center or YMCA! Check out, too, the many programs for low-income families.
10. Dream! If you want something badly enough, there is a way to get it! I'm living proof of that!
