2009 album from the Washington-born singer/songwriter. For the Give Up The Ghost, Brandi worked with Elton John (on 'Caroline'), Producer Rick Rubin, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers multi-instrumentalist Benmont Tench, drummer Chad Smith and Amy Ray of The Indigo Girls. Her last studio album, The Story (2007), has sold 315,000 albums to date and her music has been licensed to numerous television shows and ad campaigns. Her voice is gloriously raspy and yet beautiful at the same time.
The Review!
The Review!
Oh, I just couldn't believe it when I listened to this CD!. Brandi's songs arethe kind that find a place to live in your head and then pop out when you least expect it! Brandi has been around for a couple of years, but honestly, I'd never heard of her before. Where had I been? What had I been missing? Apparently the TV show "Grey's Anatomy" has used several of her songs.
I love listening to the toe-tapping, fast-paced music when I need the energy uplift to get my work done. "Looking Out", "Dying Day"and "Dreams".
The softer, slower songs of "I Will" and "Pride and Joy" are songs for a quieter, reflective time, when the mellow and earthy qualities of her voice come shining through.
If it's a love story you're after then "Caroline" is the one for you! "I'm on my way back home to you..." with Elton John in a duet.
"Before It Breaks" squeezes the tears from your very soul to overflow your heart.
"Dying Day" and "Touching the Ground" laid me flat with the flowing country vocals.
My very favorite on the CD is "If There Was No You", grabbing my heart even after reading just the title!
"That Year" is a poignant, learning from life song that hits the center of all of us.
Add in the irrepressible "Oh, Dear" and you are listening to someone you want to call "friend"! I'm already checking out venue dates in my area!
